Acceptance rate of colleges

Dear Friend,
I really appreciate your website. Its a great deed. It opens every student that is planning to study in Finland. I have questions that I want you to answer for me:

Dear friend, thank you for your kind appreciation. Thank you for writing to me.

1. Is passing the Enterance Exam means you are selected?

No. After entrance only, the selection process starts. You are invited to entrance means, your document are complete and your application is ok. After you pass the entrance and cut-off the minimum score of the particular college, then keeps you on the list of selection, out of which only the students of your limited quota gets admission.

2. What scores are safe?

It depends. It depends upon the college itself, which college you have applied and what the minimum score requirements of that particular college. But, I can say you, if you get above 80% of the score, this could be assured somewhat safe since there might be chances of being selected from at least one of the college out of your four choices.

3. What is next after passing the Exams? The process?

From your side, the next step is just wait for the admission result. Meanwhile, you can utilize this time by learning Finnish language and exploring more about Finnish culture, environment, society and job issues. From the college prospects, they will be busy on processing your application for admission.

4. How many students APPLY? How many pass the Enterance Exam? How many are accepted finally?

Again, it depends upon the courses and the college itself. The colleges of Helsinki gets more applicants and the competition is very high for admission due to high number of applicant and limited seats while colleges of rural areas gets less applicants so there will be high chances of being admitted since they set comparatively low pass score of the entrance.

Generally, with my knowledge, in colleges of Helsinki; about 70% of  the total applicants are called for Entrance. Out of the total students who appeared for entrance, 65% passes the entrance of particular college by crossing the minimum score requirement of that college. Again, I would like to remind you minimum score requirement of each college might differ. Then, out of the total pass students, on the merit list, only 50% are accepted for admission depending upon their available seats for admission. This average applies only to Helsinki based colleges, the colleges outside Helsinki will have much more acceptance rate than this.

Job in Tampere

Hello Friend,
The information on your blog site is very useful and helpful, thank you for that. I am happy that I got lots of answer to my questions from your site.
I was accepted by Tempere University of Technology for Masters degree in RF Electronics last year (2007), but that time I postponed my course for 1 year.
I am graduate with BE (Electronics & Comm.) and now working as a Engineer in a private telecom company in Nepal from last 14 months. I have also got training from Nokia Siemens Network and working in equipment from Siemens Company.
Now in this year 2008 I am planning to join my course in TUT. So could you please tell me that after I come to Finland is there any chance that I get some kind of part-time jobs in telecom company or Nokia, Siemens in this country, so that it could help me during my stay time in Finland.
And also do you have any idea where can I learn Finnish language in Kathmandu.

Hi friend, you have a wide range of experience and expertise on the field of  Telecom.  You have also got the trainings from Nokia and Siemens. More importantly, you are coming for Master Degree and your experiences are after your Bachelor degree in Electronics. And, of course you are in Tampere. So, I feel you pretty much secure from all of the aspects.

1. Tampere University itself promotes student jobs. It means, its professors will be happy to recommend you for student jobs inside the university itself or even outside IT companies including Telecom companies.

2. Nokia takes part time employee for Master Students. Being in Tampere, you are near to Nokia, so there is always more chances of getting jobs in Nokia for students. And your experience and training from Nokia adds advantage to your candidacy.  I am pretty much sure, you will get some jobs in Nokia or some telecom around  Tampere. But, its true, do not expect the same level of position as you might be working now in Nepal.  You might need to start bit lower level; but don't worry, the progress does not take time  in Finland if you are been able to show your caliber. You will progress so soon if you can show you can do something.

About the Finnish Learning in Nepal, its really difficult to find a good language center. When I come here, I also searched for it, but could not find any. I suggest you to consult online resources. There are very good resources online to learn Finnish.
Meanwhile, I will be also posting links of online resources for Learning Finnish, might be on the first week of May.

Welcome to Finland !!

Changing my mail address to protect money from fraud consultants

Thank you very much for the response to my earlier queries. Well once again I am very confused. The matter of confusion is that... I have applied to study in Finland through a consultancy i.e GRACE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION, they had already taken NRS 5000 for the processing in the beginning' and again they took NRS 4500 for the exam fee while they give me a receipt or voucher of only NRS 4000. I have given entrance exam and it was good hopeful to get chance to study in Finland. Now comes my problem, Consultancy has given their address for my any letter from university from Finland that means they will get my confirmation letter first and I think they gonna ask me more money after my confirmation and I don't wanna give 'em even a single penny. Now what should I do to get a confirmation letter or any kinda letter from University directly to my hand? Should I write a mail to a University, stating my name applicant no, to send any further document or letter to my NEW ADDRESS.. WIll it be good. OR do you have any idea on this. Please help me Out.
I wish I'd have seen this blog before going to consultancy to apply in Finland.
But anyway, now I knew I was wrong, going to consultancy.

Well friend, many Nepalese friends are being victim of those fraud consultants these days, specially in case of Finland Education.  And, you are one of them. Don't worry, there are ways override the consultant while getting acceptance letter.

It seems that you haven't browsed through the blog properly, I have written many posts about the ways to get rid from those fraud consultants. Please read the following post, it will guide you through the process of changing mail address:

Avoiding fraud consultants of Nepal (http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/04/avoiding-fraud-consultants-of-nepal.html)

Below is the link about one of the successful student who changed his address using the process mentioned on above post. This post also contains the sample of the email which he sent to the college to change his address:

Attempts to change my mail address to protect 3 lakhs from fraud consultant

Best of Luck !!

Attempts to change my mail address to protect 3 lakhs from fraud consultant

Dear friend,
From your website, I knew the process to change my mail address and I attempted to change my mail address so that I can receive my acceptance letter from the university to my address not to the the consultancy. But the admission officer asked me confirm the new address before confirming the change. So can I sure that my mail address is changed and I save my money fro that consultancy because the consultancy has demanded me about 3 lacs of cash?

*****************************************************************************

Sample of the email sent to college to change new address:

Subject: Changing my mail address

Dear sir/madam
Since I am moving to new location from this first of June 2008, I have to change my mail address. So please change my mail address as follows.

My New Mail Address is:

Your Name,
Your address detail, for eg: 416 Ka, New Shakti Binayak Marg, Sinamangal,
P.O. Box : ; KPC : 860 or EPC: 415 if any
Kathmandu, Nepal.

The address might seen as:

Mr. Ram Chandra Sedhai
416 Ka, New Shakti Binayak Marg, Sinamangal,

Kathmandu, Nepal.

I would be waiting for your response for confirmation of change of my address.

Regards,
Ram Chandra Sedhai
Applicant Number: 258945 (this could be found on confirmation of application email or invitation for entrance letter)

Dear friend, congratulations !! You are almost done with changing your mail address. You just need to sent your college one more mail stating that the new address is correct.

Then, you will get the confirmation mail from the college which says, the address have been successfully changed. Then you are done.

Congratulations for saving your 3 Lakhs ( 300,000 NRS equivalent to 3300 Euro; which can cover your expense in Finland for about 11 months) from those fraud consultants. I would like to remind you to inform the name of that fraud consultant to Embassy to protect similar other students from the consultant. Don't worry, the embassy will treat you good if you inform them about those consultants.

Note: I have hidden the name of the student and his detail to protect his identity .

IMPIT Scholorship and Credit Transfer Issues

Dear Blogger,
I am one of the regular visitor of your blog spot and I have reaped a large information from this blog. I am extremely keen and enthusiastic to pursue my further studies in Finland , since it is one of the renowned foreign country as high quality education provider.

Dear Friend, thank you for stopping by www.nepalfinland.com. Of course, Finland is a very good country in terms of quality education. I am sure that you would get the opportunity to pursue your master's degree in Finland.

I have applied in various Universities in Master's Degree program in Information Technology though I have not got any notification of admission from Universities.

You did not mention the name of the university you applied to. Anyway, the time of admission decision is still far for Master's degree. Most of the universities are dealing with Bachelor degree at the moment and will concentrate on Master's students bit later. The result of admission will start to release by mid of May depending upon the university itself. So, don't be hurry, you have still about a month in minimum to get admission notice.

One of my friend has been studying at Joensuu in IMPIT under scholarship. He gets about 460 EURO per months. I have been regularly logging the University's website and discovered that the application session for this program has started but there is not and information concerning scholarships or financial grants. I consulted to few educational consultancies but they claim that scholarships are available and give me words that they can request to the University for scholarships, but I am well informed that they can do nothing. But I am in confusion that I might not have complete information regarding IMPIT. I would be thankful to you if you could kindly inform me the reality.

International Master's Program in Information Technology (IMPIT) is very popular and wonderful program for Nepalese students. This program is well organized and structured. Though the course track and subjects of each university differs, this is a joint program run on different three Universities, University of Joensuu, Lappeenranta University of Technology and Kuopio University. The course of University of Joensuu is focused on software engineering and image processing tracks. You can choose any of the track and get master's degree on it. The course of Lappeenranta have two major tracks, Communication Engineering and Information Processing and Information Processing have further two distinct unofficial tracks for Software Engineering and Robot Vision.

About the scholarship, it is true that it used to fund students for their living. Since education is free, the university used to pay 460 Euro per month to cover living expense. Last year, one Nepalese got funded in Lappeenranta and four Nepalese in Joensuu under IMPIT program. There are more senior Nepalese students as well who is pursuing their Master's degree under IMPIT with funds. But, the situation is changed now. From this year, there will be now living funds for you. Still the course structure, name and the degree is same, but Universities will not help you for your living. So, from this year, it is ordinary program as others in terms of scholarship. Even, you need to prove yourself to be able to fund your studies by mentioning the source of 6000 euro while filling the form as well. If you see the form carefully, you can see the Financial Statement attached at the end of the form in which you need to fill your sources of fund to fund your study yourself which was not present on the form of previous years. So, don't believe these fraud consultancies, there is no scholarship on IMPIT from this year.

However, some rumors are heard around these regions that limited students who come to IMPIT will be awarded with scholarship after their arrival to the Joensuu and Lappeenranta; but remember, these are just rumors yet and I haven't got any official information whether these rumors are true or false. The official declaration about IMPIT is just that there is no scholarship from this year onwards. So, make up your mind to fund your students yourself if you decide to come. And, it would be always good if the rumors came true and awarded scholarship to limited students after their arrival.

And next issue, I have studied many times about credit transfer but I am not understanding it well. Is there any possibility of credit transfer. Suppose, I were admitted to Lappeenranta and I would like to study in Helsinki, is it possible through Credit Transfer. Credit transfer has been the common slogans to most of the educational consultancies in Nepal, kindly clarify me.

Credit transfer for Master's degree is possible but it is not that much easy as you might have thought. It is very complex process to get credit transfer. Let me explain the process of Credit transfer with your own example of Lappeenranta University of Technology and Helsinki University of Technology.

1. To start the process, you should be eligible for credit transfer on the home university (the one which you are currently studying, in your example, Lappeenranta). So, Lappeenranta, might have some rules to quality you as eligible candidate for Credit transfer. For example, you should have completed minimum of compulsory courses or 25-30 credits of your students while entire Master degree carries 120 credits.

2. You should have a justifiable reason to transfer. For example, the Lappeenranta might permit you to transfer to Helsinki if Lappeenranta does not have a specific courses of your interest while Helsinki have or any other reason. The point is, you should be able to convince them why you want to transfer to Helsinki.

3. Helsinki should accept you as transfer student. It means, once again, you need to convince Helsinki why you want to transfer from Lappeenranta to Helsinki. In this process, Helsinki may take you several interview and might be test as well if it feels necessity.

4. Then, the process of transfer starts. Your credits will be evaluated. Again, all of your credits might not be transfers since the structure of destination university and home university would be different. So, the destination university would accommodate only the credits that fits on their structure. One more issue, every university will have their policy on grading the transfer students; so you might get only Pass/Fail grade for the transfer credits on destination university though it would be reflected on the another transcript of home university. So, If you show the transcript of Helsinki, if might have given you only Passed grade as transfer credits from Lappeenranta instead of grades 1-5 ( where 5 is the maximum, this is grading system in Finland). So, in this case, if you have scored 5 in Compiler Design in Lappeenranta, you will be loosing this distinct character of your score since it might appear only with H (pass grade).

The best way I suggest you might be, never think about Credit Transfer. Instead of thinking about credit transfer, think about exchange. Like, if you like a course in Helsinki while you are studying in Lappeenranta, get permission to study that course there, study that course in Helsinki and get back to Lappeenranta to graduate. So, the ultimate degree will be from Lappeenranta. I think, that would be a better solution.

Document missing, what to do?

Thanks again for responding the mail. The entrance exam was quiet good.I had given both the psychological test and the program test.So How much chances of be selected in Nursing? I have good marks in both school matriculation and Higher secondary level.Ya I got a problem. Last time i send the important document to Finland to university after applying the online application,I thought my document already reached there. But they said they have not got it yet and i requested them that the courier office said they had delivered but till now they said that they did not get any envelope i.e document.I copied the tracking paper and send to them to see and contact the office for the reference and after seeing them they said they will send the invitation letter and i got it and register the name, took the exam. But now m afraid whether they will /will not recognize my exam or they will select me for the admissions or not.please reply me what i should do further to get the seat over there and get admitted.

Congratulation for better performance on entrance. Wish you luck for Admission results.

If your entrance have been good enough, be positive about the admission. But, there are only 15 intake on each college, let's hope for good but not depend fully on results. If you really have passion for Nursing, I think, you will get the admission.

Ok, about your problem; it happens, it happened to me as well when I applied. You do one thing, you ask that courier that either they give your confirmation of delivery letter or document missing letter officially. Then, if you have some other copy the document you sent, you immediately courier it again including the letter given by courier. Then, also tell the college that you have courier it again and inform them meanwhile you are also trying to track back the missing document. Do not make any delay to dispatch the document again. If you don't have another copy of the document your sent, print the scanned copy of it (if you have any) and send it. If you don't have even the scanned copy, there is no other way than making that document again. Meanwhile, do not leave the hope of that missing document and keep following with courier people since I found my documents back after 2 months of missing.

Since they have allowed you for entrance, they will also include you on admission process, but if the document does not reach by the end of the admission selection, they might have difficulty on accepting your application. So, be quick to send the document again. Do not make any delay for that.

Again, the victim of Fraud Consultant

Dear fren,
Fortunately,I discovered your very informative blog by Google search and I grabbed this opportunity to gain genuine information in diverse field regarding Finland through this blog. Here I would like to inform you my situation in brief and look forward your kind advice.
I have submitted an admissions application in Masters Degree programs to Tampere University of Technology and University of Turku by gaining information from Finnish Culture and Information Center, Lazimpat, Kathmandu, Nepal. The owners of the office claim that they have established it as a non profitable organization which is dedicated to offer complete and genuine information concerning study in Finland. They are also offering Finnish Language class. I have also visited a couple of times to the Finnish Embassy but I got complete and very practical information from Finnish Culture and Information Center. As a matter of service charge, I have been only charged NRS 2000 as membership fees. They have not asked me any more money besides NRS 2000. But While filling the form the postal address is mentioned of Finnish Culture and Information Center and certainly they will get the Admissions letter before me. I am in fear that can they ask me more money at that time? Please kindly inform me what do you know about Finnish Culture and information Center since there are about 50 students.

Dear friend, the consultancy you mentioned on the mail is one of the known consulting group for acquiring large amount of money from students for advices. You are already been the victim of it. I repeatedly advice my readers to avoid such consultants. If you want to save your money and also be assured about the visa, the only way is to inform Finnish Embassy in Bishal Nagar. If Embassy came to know later that you are using consultant to process your document by paying a handsome amount to them, Embassy may reject your visa.

Please read this following post to get rid of it:

Finnish People and racism

Hello,

Your information on study in Finland has been joy to study as well as very useful in the same time. You have been providing information about the entrance, survival tactics, job opportunity, and other things. But I would like to drag in the matter of Finnish people and their behavior. I mean how do they treat the foreign elements landing on their land. Are Nepalese people sufferers of anti-racism or any kind of mis-behavior only due to their color of skin? I mean do these things exist predominantly or only on exceptional cases not to be concerned of?

I just wanted to know what kind of reception we all(Nepalese students) can expect to receive if we are lucky enough to come there in our near future.

I have searched in different sites and found Finland to be one of the most safest and with low rate of crime in comparison to other countries. But I wanted to clarify that from you as you are studying there.

I am really happy to know that you are being aware about the Finnish Education, culture and related stuffs. I really appreciate your concern about the people's behavior in Finland. I am really glad to share my experiences about their treatment towards Nepalese.

In summary, I would say, Finnish people are the best people of the world. They are so quiet, peaceful and non-violent. They are the real Gandi-badi people when you say, "ready to accept slap on other cheek if you slap on one". They are so creamy and good people with superior civilization and culture. I believe, we Nepalese are very much violent than these Finnish people when you talk about their decency.

Finnish people have two best friends, Sauna and Beer. One of my Japanese friend says, these Finnish drink more beers than water. I think, he is absolutely right. And, Sauna bath is another essential factor on their life. There are 1.7 Millions Sauna places while the total population of Finland is just 5.6 Millions.  There won't be any house without sauna and there won't be any Finnish inside sauna without beer in his/her hand. Finnish people get wild after drinking beer but they won't be violent and they won't harm anyone even after drinking.

It is really true fact that Finland is the safest place of the world. You will be so assured about you, your security and such issues once you get adopted with the Finnish system. There is no chances of theft of stuffs, no threats, no chances of harm, no road accidents, no crime, no bloodshed and no noises and loud voices. One of my friend told it dead-land as well since we Nepalese are so habitual with noises and such stuffs while these Finnish get surprises when we make some loud voices. Everyone is peaceful and so quiet. Everyone respects the human rights of other people and respect the individuality of each other.

But, you should remember, here are International people as well who come here carrying their culture along with them. So, being alert is really a good idea to avoid any of the forthcoming accident. But, there are very less number of international people; so these international people are also influenced with the Finnish system and become peaceful on most of the cases.

About racism, I am still on doubt. I can't say whether these people are racist or not. Naturally, Europeans are slight racist towards South Asians. I would say, these Finnish people are silently racist, it means, they don't show their biasness towards us and treat us like they are treating us good, but they are biased when it comes about implementation. Let's take an example of job issues: if there is a opening for job where English speaking is only the criteria of selection and there is one Finnish applicant, then your chances of getting job will drastically drops down though your English skills might be far better than that Finnish Applicant. They might say, they don't make any discrimination depending on any kind of factors but it happens sometimes. Similarly, the teacher will be teaching in a classroom filling with majority of International Students and one Finnish students asks a question in Finnish language, then the teacher gladly answers in Finnish language and don't care what these International Students might be thinking about. It is natural that Finnish people should get advantage in Finland since its their homeland and it is the place where they will struggle and contribute for their nation. But, it does not mean that you are welcoming International Students as guest and making them feel humiliation by your act. For example, you are giving an interview for a Programming post which says, you should be fluent in some programming language and you did very good during the interview. Later, you got a mail stating "We can't accept you for this position since you don't have Finnish language skills". The funny thing is that the company website of that company states they operate in English and have English as the medium of communication inside the office. Even, the job description says, should be good in English and no Finnish Language needed. Another example, when you go for searching some cleaning job like Dish washing in restaurant, he/she will ask you every possible question and could not find any further one question, he/she will ask how much fluent are you in Finnish Language? Understand that he/she could not say NO to you so asking this question, so, answering negative means, he/she will say, "We can't take you since you have Finnish language". Only these Finnish people can understand why they need Finnish language to wash dishes. If you say, you are fluent and show your fluency in front of them and if they don't want to take you, they will say, "We don't have any vacancy now and we will call you later when there will be any vacant place" though you went there after seeing a vacancy on a newspaper this morning only. You reached there on exact nine O'clock and notify them and you came here only after seeing the vacancy so there must be that position vacant till yet since you reached there on first minute of first hour of office opening. But if they need not to take you, they will say, we just confirmed one this morning. This funny logic really works that they took one when the office was not opened. Unfortunately, immediately after you, a Finnish one walks in and happily comes out by getting that job for which you were passed through such a long drama of "Finnish Language", "Position not available", "Position already reserved". I don't know whether these Finnish people don't want to say directly NO or any other reason of biasness, but they are not kind enough towards South Asian.

Being specific to the treatment about Nepalese, they are really so kind to Nepalese. They treat us good than other South Asian citizens. They believe us and really feel us honest rather than other South Asian. The above paragraph is the iron gate that every Nepalese need to pass through and once you pass through it, these Finnish people treat us are the dearest one than all of the other South Asian people.

English Test and study options

First of all, I want to wish you happy new year 2065 and thanks a lot for helping us by providing informations about Finnish education system. I am now in Singapore. I also applied for Finland and selected for Bachelor in International Business. So I am going to Kuala Lumpur for my English Test. I am selected by Central Ostrobothnia University, how is this university and how far from Helsinki? Can I change my field of study after I come to Finland. I was a good student during my schooling what is the possibility to be pass the English test if once selected for English test ? Is maximum number of students fail in English test or they  are rejected before they sit for English test?

Thank you for writing to me. Central Ostrobothnia University of Applied Science (UAS) is a polytechnics institution, but not a university. Polytechnic  and University are two different educational bodies in Finland however the degree of both institutions are equally prioritized and valid. They are classified depending upon their educational structure and standard. Universities focuses on research and further education prospects however polytechnics focuses on providing high quality practical education.

English Test is one of the important step to qualify students for Bachelor degree. English test is not difficult. It is just supposed to measure whether do you meet the minimum English requirements to study Bachelor level in Finland or not. You can not compare it with IELTS, Toefl or any other English tests. There is no such ratio that this much students will be qualified before English test and this much to be filtered after test. They select all of the students who qualify minimum requirements for admission for Test. Then, once the test is completed, they evaluate the application form along with your score of Test to decide the admitting candidate from the list of applicants. So, the test itself is more vital for admission decision. The pass mark of Test differs from test provider, institution and degree. So, all of the students who meet that minimum pass mark of the test are included on the selection process of admission however the higher score on entrance will be really influential for admission decision.

Normally, you can not change your place of study once you are admitted on the course though out the completion of your degree. Few colleges and degree offers credit transfer among the cooperating colleges and degree. But, this process is complicated and tedious.

Ostrobothnia region is far from Helsinki. Ostrobothnia UAS have different colleges so, it would have been if you have written me the college name properly to know the exact info about the location.

Job Issues: Working while studying?

Dear Friend,
I went through your website and found it very helpful. I have recently received an entrance test invitation letter from HAMK UAS for Bachelors in Automation engineering. I just want to ask few questions to you,

Dear Friend, thank you very much for your kind appreciation about my blog. I am glad that you liked it.

1. Is HAMk a better place for Study? ( Please discuss weather, living costs, job opportunities etc.)

HAMK is located in Hämeenlinna which lies between larger three cities of Finland, Tampere, Turku and Helsinki (Capital City). So, it might sound better rather than other polytechnics but still Hämeenlinna is about 100 KM far from Helsinki. So, now, it depends upon your class schedule now. If your priority is job, it might be better to live in Helsinki and go to college only on class days from Helsinki. If you do so, it will be easier to manage and search for jobs however you can manage job from Hämeenlinna as well. Taking about Weather, Finland is cold as you might know. The temperature in summer will reach around +25 degree will it will drop down to -25 in Winter. But, don't scare with the temperature, you will be adjusted within 1-2 months. So, it won't be any issue for you. As I wrote on other posts on this blog, the average living cost will be around 300 Euro, however it depends upon how much luxurious you are. I suggest you to read my earlier posts as well to know more about the classification of 300 clicking here:
some questions about job in Finland
Studies, Jobs and Career options in Finland

Jobs are relatively available in Helsinki, however it does not mean that you will job so easily there. But, you can get jobs there if you keep on searching. But, getting jobs in other cities is really very difficult. Only the lucky one gets jobs in other cities. So, be happy that you are nearer to Helsinki.

2. Are here better job opportunities? Since I know English and no Finnish, so can I earn enough income to help my self and my family in Pakistan?

If you are thinking about helping your family while studying, it does not sound practical, at least in case of Finland since it is really difficult to get job here. And, even if you get some work like, in Postal Office, Newspaper Delivery, cleaning jobs or restaurant jobs; it will pay you only for living expense during your studies. If you want to maintain your good study records, you will be able to devote only minimal time on jobs. And, more importantly you are eligible to work only for 25 hours per week. So, I don't think helping your parents during your studies sound practical matter.

However, after you complete your degree, you can get really good jobs in Finland related to your degree. Then, of course, you will be able to help your family with your income.

Minimum Finnish language is almost essential to search and get jobs here. But, don't worry, if you don't know it, you will learn after arriving here. If you can study some Finnish there in your own country before arriving here, it would add more possibility to get job.
3. How much can I earn monthly?

I hope, the above two links of my previous posts and my above answer replied your query.
4. What type of questions do they ask in Entrance exam. Can I get its syllabus from somewhere?

You can get the entrance model question for your program on the following link.
http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/03/sample-entrance-questions-for-it.html
Friend, I belong to a middle class family. I have recently completed my A Levels in Pakistan. My parents have a dream of providing me quality education. I want to make their dream come true but I also want to help them financially. I want to work hard and pay my university expenses myself without asking for the help of my parents. Instead I want to help my parents financially by studying hard and working hard in Finland. Please let me know If HAMk and Finland are good place for education and work respectively.

Though I am not a Nepali but I would be glad if you could answer my questions.

Best of Luck for your entrance and Admission. I wish for the fulfillment of your dream and desires.

When I started this blog, I did not expect it will attract such a large number of visitors. The data of last week (April 1, 2008 to April 7, 2008) really surprised me. I started this blog in October 2007 with the motive to share the information I have about Finland, its education, culture, language and related issues since I remember how much I struggle to get such information when I was applying and searching for similar information on Internet. So, I started this blog with the motive to share those information with my friends who is really needing them and searching for it desperately I was before.

When the application process was about to start, the flow of emails to my mailbox grew. January was bit heavy for me with replying their emails. Then, February was bit relief. Again, March came with bombardment of emails to my mailbox. During these period, so many emails for my dear friends with their queries and suggestions; some emails with threaten from consultancies, some phone calls from unknown persons of Finland threatening for physical damage if I continue blogging against consultancies, some phone calls from Finland and Nepal from the well-wishers of this blog with their kind appreciation about the blog, some emails from Authorities with diplomatic and identification queries, some proposals, some theft of contents from other bloggers to their blogs; but all of those experiences are overridden by the warm and kind care of my dear friend readers.

Being a student myself, It became very hard for me sometimes to reply such a large number of emails daily when the deadline of my project, presentation and assignment were nearer. But, I tried my best to manage sometime for Nepal Finland since I was aware of the fact that my dear friends are also very desperate to get the response of their mails and queries. I replied all of the emails delivered to my mailbox with very few exceptions. I have replied with my optimum honesty to provide absolute truth to my dear friend readers. I reply in average 25 mails per day related to queries and out of them I publish 3-4 important queries to the blog as posts.

I contacted so many polytechnic colleges, friends of different cities and places of Finland to assure the information on the blog contains absolute truth. But, I don't claim they are all right. I am also a human. There might be some mistakes unknowingly. I am really regretful to those mistakes if any.

I would like to assure you that I will be helping you all continuously and with optimum efforts. Thank you for loving www.nepalfinland.com so much and keep loving it.

Again, another victim of Consultancy

I applied in the study for Finland through the "cross country education center" in Nepal. they told me that they were proper ambassadors .But looking at your blog it seemed to me that it was a mistake to do so? they haven't asked me for much money ,but from their intention it felt as if all the students applying would not be selected, even if they passed the exam. They haven't even gave me my entrance admit card and not mentioned the college name also.I also have quite a confusion on the types of questions asked, the embassy just gave me a question sample is that it,If you could just give me information about the exam and how will i clearly be able to know the truth and apply in universities of Finland by myself ,it would be grateful, plz hurry cause my exam is near as the institution says.

Dear Friend, you are already surrounded by problems. The first thing now, is to contact the embassy and telling them the truth and every detail about your admission process. Read the following post for what to do now? : http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/04/avoiding-fraud-consultants-of-nepal.html

Entrance Model for Nursing Degree in Finland for 2008

Dear Friend,
Good Evening, its me ________ from Nepal.I applied online application to FInland for my Bachelor in Nursing. As am not too much familiar with the types of question.I did apply to the following University.
1.TURKU UAS
2.CENTRAL OSTHROBOTHMIA UAS
3.JYVASKYLA UAS.
so worried about the entrance because do not know what type of questions are asked generally. so if you do have the syllabus of Nursing Program then please send it to me.

Hi Friend,
I was getting so much emails related to Nursing degree. But, I was not being able to collect materials for Nursing. Now, I have something to share with you. Your third option Jyvaskyla posted some materials for entrance:

If you are appearing Entrance Examination outside Finland (that means if you are appearing entrance at Ktm, Nepal):

Essay: 0 - 70 points (you need to score minimum 12 points)
Questions measuring the applicant's motivation for nursing course and aptitude 0 - 30 points (you need to score minimum 8 points) - Includes Psychological Aptitude test to measure the motivation of Applicant for Nursing Degree.
Total 100 points

The applicant will fail in the entrance examination as a whole, if he/she gets less than the minimum points in one of its parts. If the applicant's language skills need to be tested, the language test will be included in the entrance examination and assessed on a pass/fail basis.

A minimum of 20 points is required for a pass in the entrance exam.
A minimum of 60 points is required for discretionary admission.

If you are appearing Entrance Examination in Finland (that means if you are coming to Finland to attend Entrance):

Assignment on provided material, 0 - 30 points (minimum 5 points)
Interaction in group 0 - 30 points (minimum 5 points)
Interview 0 - 40 points (minimum 10 points)
Total 100 points

The applicant will fail in the entrance examination as a whole, if he/she fails in one of its parts.
If the applicant's language skills need to be tested, the language test will be included in the entrance examination and assessed on a pass/fail basis.

A minimum of 20 points is required for a pass in the entrance exam.
A minimum of 60 points is required for discretionary admission.

I will inform you more if I found out more materials for Entrance.

please also clear it out how Nursing programme there,is it too difficult to get visa?is that subject too hard to study n survive there? How much is the chances of rejecting visas for that subject and How is the selection procedure for Nursing.
I heard that if Priority is mentioned in the invitation letter,we get chance to be selected ,is it?

Please keep in mind that even though the medium of teaching is English, you might need to develop your commanding skills on Finnish language as well since you need to serve to Finnish people during your study and practical to become a certified nurse. But, don't worry, in most of the cases, colleges themselves will teach you language also. But, you should be ready to cope with the language issues.

If you get the admission, Visa won't be problem. Generally, visa is not rejected if you get the admission. Study will be interactive and much flexible. You will enjoy studying here.

Surviving might be a cause to worry if you need job during your studies. Getting jobs are really difficult in Finland while studying, typically in other cities than Helsinki. So, I better suggest to bring backup amount for at least one year if you are coming here. But after your degree, you need not to worry about the job since nursing is one of the highly paying job in Finland and highly demanded profession. So, after being certified Nurse, you will get good jobs.

The intake of students is really limited (in most of the cases only 15 students per college), so getting admission to it might be bit difficult. The competition is bit higher than other courses since the scope is really high. But, if you feel, nursing degree is your passion, you will definitely succeed.

Selection process depends upon the entrance score. Entrance score plays a vital role on your selection. Instead of it, score of your previous degree might be also considered. Some colleges also prefer to take phone or live interviews. If interviews are taken, it might be another factor to consider during selection process.

The order of your option on colleges matters since it is the order of your preference of choices for colleges. For example, if you have selected Turku UAS as first option, it means you likely to get admission on Turku UAS and you want to go for another option only if you are not selected on TURKU UAS since it is your first preference for studies. So, the order of your option is your preference for admission. But the first option does not block other colleges to sort list you for admission. But, of course those colleges will wait till the selection of your first option and only if you are not taken by first option, then, they issue your acceptance.

Best of Luck for your Entrance !!

Will the first option blocks the way for remaining options during selection process?

Dear Friend
Thank you and glad to your email response I have applied 4 UAS but I will appear exam for Arcada University Applied of Science. But I don't know how much score requirement for admission. If I reject from Arcada does they send that score other UAS for admission. My option are below you could find
1.  option: Arcada: Degree Programme in International Business
2.  option: Vaasa UAS, Business and Tourism, IB, HB: Degree Programme in International Business
3.  option: Turku UAS, Turku, International Business: Degree Programme in International Business
4.  option: Kajaani UAS, Business: Degree Programme in International Business

Ya, you don't worry, they all share entrance score with each other. So, when your entrance score is evaluated then it is shared with all of them. The selection comes next step. If Arcada rejects you ( let's hope, it won't), there is still chances of being selected from other UAS. So, let's be hopeful for acceptance from at least one of the above colleges.

Best of Luck for your Entrance !!

Are Questions same for all UAS in Entrance?

Friend, i got invitation letter from turku university of Applied Science, turku  and there is written
the result of this entrance exam is valid for followin university
1 Turku uas IT degree programme in information technology
2 vassa uas IT degree programme in information technology
3 south karelia uas lappentrata tech. degree programme in in mechanical engineering & tech
4 centr. ostrobothnia kokkala tech. degree programme in chemical engineering & production
so i want to know about what type of question are asked in entrance exam for these universities ?

Dear Friend,

The model for the entrance of most of the Polytechnics for IT are similar.
Please read the following post for question structure:
http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/03/sample-entrance-questions-for-it.html

Do not expect the same will be asked on the entrance examination. It gives just general idea about entrance examination.

and next thing is  , is same question will be asked to all the students getting invitation letter from different  university?

No. The question will be same if they share the entrance score. But, if they do not share entrance score, the entrance question will be different.  Please check it post to find out which colleges share entrance score: http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/03/cooperating-degree-programs-in-entrance.html

Best of Luck for your Entrance !!

Choosing the right college for me

Dear friend,
I have got invitation letters from ROVANIEMI UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES and  Lahti UAS
Degree Programme in Business Information Technology..and 1st one states that;
The result of this exam is valid for :
1.ROVANIEMI UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES
 Degree Programme in Information Technology

2.SAVONIA UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES
 Degree Programme in Information Technology.

3,South Karelia, Lappeenranta, Technology
Degree Programme in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology

now my question is...
1.tell me about  ROVANIEMI  city.... wanted to know the job about opportunity in this city..is it a small city?possible to get any kind of job for survive?
.do u know any1 who live in this city?

First of all, congratulation for getting Invitation for Entrance and thank you very much for writing to me. Rovaniemi is the Northern town of Finland. I don't think enough job probabilities can be found there since I see most of the Nepalese rush to Helsinki for getting jobs. I have a number of friends there and everybody among them says that there is no jobs as other smaller towns of the Finland.

2.give me a ranking of these universities...which city/UAS of these will be best for me to survive in Finland without taking money from home.

If you come to Finland without taking money from home, no cities can make you survive. Even if you come to Helsinki, it takes time to get any kind of job. So, forget about other cities. I never recommend anyone to come to Finland without taking money from home. At least you should have backup for 6 months if you come to Helsinki and one year backup if you come to other cities.

Since you have got invitation from Rovaniemi and Lahti, I think Lathi is more better with job prospects since it is near to Helsinki. But again, it is another smaller town and job is not so easy even in Lathi. But, being nearer to Helsinki, you might have some option to travel to Helsinki if you got job there.

3.after exam If I get enough number  to admit in my 1st and 3rd    choices UAS...can I chose my 3rd option UAS for study...or I have to go with my 1st chose option...
last.......wish me luck for my entrance exam(17th april).

You did not clearly mention whether you applied to those all of the colleges or not. The entrance score is valid only for the colleges from which you got invitation letter. The college from which you did not receive invitation letter means you are already filtered out from the applicant list of that college. But, if your Invitation for Entrance mentions that the invitation is valid from all of those three colleges and the colleges included on the list are the colleges which you have applied for, then, the entrance score is shared among them and will be valid for all of them.

In most of the cases, they will give you acceptance only for one college by cooperating with the other partner colleges. But, if you got acceptance from two or more colleges, you can choose the college of your choice and confirm your seat on that particular colleges. It is not forced to accept the college of first choice.

Best of Luck for your Entrance !! Wishing you Luck !!

Confused about Area of Study to chhose Entrance

Hello Mate.
Well, It's really nice to get u on the way when I was like lost in the middle of nowhere. You indeed are doin' gr8 job. Well Done.Like other I hab few queries.. hope u'll suggest me.
I have got invitation letters from 2 UAS.
1 of them states that;
The result of this exam is valid for
1.option
Jyvaskyla UAS, Business, Degree Programme in IB
2.option
Kajaani UAS, Business, Degree Programme in IB

Other states that;
The result of this exam is valid for
3.option
KEMI-TORNIO UAS, Technology, kemi, Degree Programme in IT
4.option
Vaasa UAS, Technology, IT, Degree Programme in IT

Now my main point of confusion is... I want to study IT but don't have it's background also don't have any idea about what kinda question will be asked.

Well, let me congratulate you first for getting Invitation Letter. Congratuations for Invitation Letter and Best of Luck for Entrance Exam. I am glad that you like www.nepalfinland.com. Thank you very much for your kind appreciation.

Coming to your query, your Bachelor in IT does not really require specific background. Finland have 9+3 years of schooling so, even Finnish people come directly to this Bachelor's degree without specific background on Computers. But, it is true that they will be some basic and good operating knowledge of computers during their schooling. So, if background is only your problem but you are really interested in IT, I think you need not to hesitage; you can do better in IT. But, if you are not good on even operatin the computers, definately you need to upgrade your computer skills before coming to Finland.

About questions on entrance, read this blog: http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/03/sample-entrance-questions-for-it.html. But remember, it gives you just general idea about what might be asked on the entrance but does not reflect the exact model of speficicallly your entrance.

And about studyin' IB .. i have it's background but don't wanna study it also don't hab any idea about qstns that'll be asked.

Again, if you don't want to go for it, forget thinking about IB. But, if you background is IB and you want to do more on IB, you might think about it. About the entrance model, follow this link: http://www.nepalfinland.com/2008/03/detail-entrance-exam-model-structure.html. Again, it is just a framework extracted from the public web content of the college and does not mean to cover all of the entrance stuffs. But, it is really helpful to find out what might be asked on your entrance.

Plz suggest me which U think is better for me. And among all these UAS which is better for study ..accomodation and gettin' jobs to survive during study??? Plz suggest me as quick as you can.

I think, I might not be able to chhose the best area of studies for you. You are the one, who can really decide what is best for you. Think about it twice and decide which one to choose. In my knowledge, both areas are good enough. So, think about it and make a wise decision which is best for you. If you compare with the job and opportunities available on the cities of these colleges, IB colleges are located on such cities which have more jobs and opportunities compared with IT colleges.

College Selection and Job issues

I wanted to ask is that I got invitation letter from all the four colleges that I applied for and I just have decided to go on with the two colleges which are my 1st and 3rd option.
The name of the college which I applied are as follows:

1. option
KEMI-TORNIO UAS, SOCIAL SERVICES
Degree Program in Social Services

2. option
Laurea UAS, Espoo Otaniemi
Degree Program in Social Services

3. option
DIACONIA UAS, Järvenpää
Degree Program in Social Services

4. option
Arcada
Degree Program in Human Ageing and Elderly Service

First of all, congratulation for getting Invitation for Entrance from all of the four colleges. Best of Luck for your entrance Examinations. As you told, you have already decided to go forward with two colleges, I think you have analyzed enough to decide the college you have selected.

what should I do next... and i just wanted to know the job opportunity that i can get in these cities. I am also sending u the name of the colleges. Is it ok if I don't appear for the other two colleges I don't want to attain?

You need to set the priority first whether Job is your first priority or just a medium to survive during your studies. The fact is that getting job in entire Finland is really difficult. The capital city Helsinki is bit exception to it but the crowd of people with respect to the less number of opportunities have created a really big challenge to get jobs even in Helsinki. So, all of the towns and cities are similar, there is extremely difficult to get job in Finland. But, once if you are lucky to get the job, the minimal payment from the job will also make you comfortable to survive in Finland. If I need to rank your colleges depending upon the probability of getting job then,
1. Arcada and Laurea Espoo - Since both colleges are in/near by Helsinki.
2. Järvenpää is also near by Helsinki.
3. Kemi is really very smaller town with respect to jobs and opportunities.

Its all depend upon you whether you wanted to attend their entrance or not. It does not matter anything to other colleges if you don't want to attend entrance of another two colleges. But, if these colleges share the entrance score, they will get your entrance score even if you do not attend their entrance.

I also heard that some students even work for 3 months during the vacation and makes enough money to live there during the semester period without working. is it possible??

It is really true, if you get a good job during Summer vacation. But, getting job itself is really much difficult here. So, getting a good job which pays you such a good amount so that you can cover your living expense for a year with the income of only three month; is really much tough job. If you come here with such prediction, you might fail. But, these sentences are not false and if you get really lucky to get a good job, it could be possible. But, being lucky to this extent is really a miracle and happens only with one out of average 2000 students.

Avoiding fraud consultants of Nepal

Dear Friend,
I have applied to Finnish college from a consultancy and received document from college named Kajaani or something starting with word kaj....,

Dear Friend, you are making mistakes over mistakes. You have already made several mistakes within this period making your Finland process more complex and complex. The very blunder mistake you did was you went to consultancy. On my very earlier blog, I had already told my friend readers NEVER to go and pay to consultancy for Finland process. Because:

1. Consultancy does NOTHING for you except posting that document from post office which you can do in maximum 500 NRS. So, are you going to pay more than one lakh for the purpose which you can do on 500 only?

2. If they say you they have links to college, they are simply telling you lie. You will know the country Finland when you come here, no link or internal works are they say exist here. They are just trying to make you fool to loot your money.

And, it is really sad that you are not sure about the name of college as well. It is Kajaani University of Applied Sciences. It is a polytechnic college located in Kajaani city. It is very smaller city and lies almost near by upper northern part of Finland. If you are really serious about Finland studies, I think, you should know the college, query about college, job probabilities (if needed for you), study structure and more details before applying to the college. You just believed them and left all to them without taking the issue more seriously from your side.

I would like to notify you that, if embassy or college knows that you are applied through a consultancy, your visa might be rejected or your admission process will be terminated. It is because, Finnish government is funding for your studies providing you free education. So, when you pay more than a lakh rupees to them for nothing, it means to them that you are not serious on your studies but your motive is just to enter inside the Finland. So, I have heard some examples when, somebody was found to be applied through consultancy and his visa was rejected from Embassy of Finland, Bishal Nagar, Kathmandu, Nepal.

But the thing is that they are asking me 10000 NRS within 4th April excluding exam fee at British council, they said that they need to pay to college,

No. None of the colleges need to paid on such a way. You need not to pay your college. It is free. The consultancy you are referring is telling you lie and taking advantage of your ignorance and innocence.

I have not paid any single penny in the beginning now they are asking me to do so,
do we need to pay earlier ? do we need to pay to the college any charge ,

You need not to pay anything earlier to college. The cost while applying was just the courier charge to post your document from Nepal to Finland, which is NRS 500 maximum if you do by Nepal Postal Office, 1500 if you do from courier service like DHL, Linkex or Skynet. Neither you need to pay anything to college while applying nor while appearing to entrance.

they did not show me the received document even let me touch
what should i do; please reply me before within 4th April if possible. I am in need of your view promptly. Please help me.

It shows that they are not being truthful and genuine with you. That is why they are not showing you your invitation for entrance. If they have linkage with college, why they need to afraid from giving you the document. They are hiding it, since they know you are the source of income to them.

You are really on critical stage. I can't help you much with the entrance issues since you are too near to entrance now. So, you do some primary works first before entrance and some after entrance.

1. By hook and crook, take your 'Invitation for Entrance' from them since without it, you can't appear on Entrance. If you have enough time to get it from post, contact the college, call them, mail them and request them to send to a new address. At this time, this consultancy might have given their address to receive your documents in Nepal and thats why they are being able to use you. So, give the college the college a new address and request them to re-send if you have enough time to receive it by post.

2. If you do not have enough time to receive it by post, primarily, visit the Embassy, tell them the truth, tell them, this particular consultancy is asking me money to get my invitation letter and even threatening me that if I don't give them money they will not allow me to appear in entrance. So, request them to communicate with college and help you to appear on entrance. These embassy people are so helpful, they will definitely help you.

3. If you became successful to appear on entrance either by hook and crook or with the help of embassy, then, do your best on your entrance. Then, the first thing you need to do is, communicate with college and change your address to new address so that if you are selected, your acceptance letter come to you NOT to that consultancy. Make sure with college that your acceptance letter will be dispatch to this new address but not the address of that consultancy.

4. Be aware, if you tell the truth to Embassy now, they will treat you good. It is my own experience. If you lied to them now and followed as consultancy told you and they later found that you applied through a consultancy, they might even cancel your visa even just before the flight. I have seen such examples.

Best of Luck !!
