Model of the entrance question for Finland

Dear friend, as the exam date is fixed for April 17,but i don't have actual knowledge about the questions to be asked ..could you please help me by providing some of the model questions.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am glad to find your site after hours of surfing. It is very helpful for those interested to study in Finland.
I have my friend who has just received a invitation letter from Vaasa for entrance examination on 23 April,2008. We are at present in Germany as student. As, he has no any problem to travel to Vaasa for entrance as being in Schengen States. He is quite curious about the questions that will be asked in exam. He has a IELTS score of 6.5. Will they only ask in the field of language ,maths, essay writing and logical questions(General knowledge) ?

I would be very grateful if I am able to even get a single hint for it. Oh by the way, he has applied for Bachelor of Hospitality Management ( degree for tourism).
I look forward to having your response.

Hi Friends,

In deed, the question pattern differs by the college individually. The Entrance is not uniform for all of the colleges. So, the best guidance could be only from the college authority. But, if they prefer to hide the entrance detail, get prepared only for general subjects you studied on +2 level. English test, logical and mathematical thinking is common for all of the degrees. There will be certainly some mathematics and basic science questions for IT and engineering. General Knowledge questions include some computer basic questions and general logical questions. Rest could not be told friend. So, if you would like to be assured about the model of the question, please try to convince the college. If you have applied for Business Degree, read another one post by me for detail structure of Entrance Examination for this year.

One thing more, there won't be any long answer questions. Only short questions which requires maximum of 4-5 sentences and majority of the questions will be objective one.

Do you know any Nepalese living in Vaasa?

After getting your mail, I contacted one of my friend of Vaasa and asked him what was asked on his Entrance, he also told me that only general mathematics, English and General logical questions were asked. But, his program was different than the one which you have applied for. Don't worry so much about entrance, it is not a big headache.

Cooperating degree programs in entrance exams

It is the list of polytechnics/UAS and concern degree programs that accept the results of each others' entrance examination in the mentioned field of study for the year of 2008.

Applicant who has applied to 1 - 4 degree programs that are included in the same field of study and accept each other's results will be invited only to one entrance examination, the result will be accepted in all the co-operating degree programs that the applicant has applied to.

If a polytechnic/UAS degree program is not included in the list, it does not accept entrance examination results from any other polytechnic/UAS, and the applicant has to attend the entrance examination of that polytechnic/UAS.

Application Follow up; Did not get a response from RAMK

Dear friend, in the search of studying finland, I got your email address. Thanks to you & your team for providing suggestions who want to study in Finland. I would also like to put some query about admissions process.I hope u will help me.
I found out Rovaniemen Ammattikorkeakoulu (RAMK) or Rovaniemi University of Applied Science and I requested for application to study International Project Management. I filled application form according to the given General guidance notes in the last page of application & sent those documents which are described on guidance notes. I requested program coordinator for knowing whether my application form is accepted or not. I also want to get information is there are lacking some documents or not before deadline March 30, 2008. But I couldn't get reply from University. In this context, what is the cause for non responding my email ? Is there any solutions for me? I will very happy if u provide me suggestions.

Dear Friend, thank you very much for writing to me. I saw that its deadline is still two more days. So, these Finnish authorities does not open your file before completion of deadline. After the deadline passed, they gather all of the collected applications, open them and progress with the selection process. So, the reason you did not get any response from them is just because they don't really bother who have applied and who have not before completion of deadline. So, after deadline, they will check the individual file. That time, you might get some response from college. Some colleges respond as Application Received Confirmation mail, if your package contains all of the documents are they requested. But, don't worry if you don't receive such confirmation since all of the colleges does not respond like application received confirmation mail. I don't know exactly whether this particular college sends the application received confirmation or not.

About getting response back from them, you start sending mail to them after deadline. Then, you will respond to applicant. It is because, they might be getting hundreds of emails per day and it would not be feasible for them to respond all of them. So, after deadline, when they sort out the list of applicant, they will be more happy to reply the mails of the applicants. Finnish people are very good on replying mails quickly and precisely. But, since they might be very busy on their own works, they do not bother to respond each individual mails which they don't think is really related to them. When the list of applicants is processed, then a relation with them will be established as a perspective student, then they will be more serious and sincere to you and reply your mails.

Best of Luck for your Admission!!

How much is the Entrance Fee for appearing in Entrance?

hello,
I have applied for the bachelors for the upcoming august session and i have been invited for entrance through mail. i haven't received it received the original letter yet. but i wanted to know do i have to pay any entrance exam fees? if so what can be the range of the fees? i tried to find in different sites but all in vain ,plz help me

Thanks for writing to me. Normally there will be entrance fees. The entrance fee ranges from 100 Euro to 200 Euro. Last year, most of the entrance were charged 100 Euros only with exception for two colleges for which 200 euros were charged for Entrance. 100 Euros makes about 10,000 NRS with the rough estimation. To get the exact value of the entrance fee to be paid, contact the British Council or Embassy of Finland whichever is your Entrance organizer.

Information for students who have received invitation for entrance exam

I observed that many of the students are still confusion about entrance issues though I wrote the same on many posts. So, I am posting extract of a news from Embassy of Finland, Nepal. Remember: it is not the entrance information for year 2008 (this year), but it is from last year (2007). I am posting it, just to give you more detail about the Finnish way of expressing issues related to Entrance and how they manage Entrances.
News, 3/30/2007
Information for students who have received invitation for entrance exam
  • Read your invitation carefully, it should state WHO ORGANISES the exams, WHEN, WHERE AND THE FEE.
  • Embassy has no obligation of informing students of exams which are NOT organised by the Embassy.
  • Most exams are organised by the British Council in Nepal, in this case the Embassy has no involvement -> Contact British Council, not the Embassy.
  • If you have a chance to sit in an exam in Nepal, use that opportunity! It's not adviced to apply a visa for Finland to participate exam in Finland, if you can do it here.
  • If the only chance to participate to the exam is in Finland, you may apply a tourist visa. Chances for getting a visa are extremely low, only very few students will be allowed a tourist visa for entrance exam purposes.
  • Bear in mind all costs are borne by the visa applicant: non-refundable visa fee, plane tickets, local transportation and accommodation etc. in Finland.
  • For tourist visa, follow the general tourist visa application procedures and bring a copy and original of all mentioned below:
  1. All educational documents
  2. All other supporting documents you may want to show during visa application process
  3. Invitation letter from college/university

EVTEK exam for Techonology, Communication and Transport will be organised by the Embassy at a hotel in Katmandu on 24th April from 12 noon untill 4 PM. If you are invited to EVTEK, come to the Embassy at least one day before to pay your fee 100€ (9400NPR) payable only in Nepalese currency. You also need your ID card and invitation letter. On the exam day you need the receipt of paid exam fee, ID and invitation letter.

TAMK exam for Environmental engineering will be organized at the Embassy on 11th May. Time will be published later. Come at least one hour before the exam with 9400 NPR. two ID cards, college invitation letter and copy AND original of educational documents.

Diaconia exam for Degree Programme in Social Services will be organized at the Embassy either on the 2nd or the 3rd of May. The exact time and date and more detailed information will be published later. Embassy will also organize all the necessary phone interviews.

Invited students for the following colleges may come to apply visa to participate entrance exam in Finland, chances of getting a visa is very low.

  • Haaga-Helia Only in Finland 20.4., 23.4., 7.-11. 5. and 9.6.2007.
  • TAMK International Business, exam only in Finland 8-10 May.

Appearing Entrance in Finland

Dear Nepal Finland dot com
You are doing a really GOOD job. It's nice my friend.

Thank you very much for visiting Nepal Finland and I am really glad that you found it useful.

Let me put some quiries:
1.In the invitation letter it is stated that this entrance is valid for option 2 or 3 or 4. Or sometime more than one. In that case how can we be assure that single entrance will be accepted by others? May be sometime the subjects are different too.

If the Invitation Letter states that "entrance is valid for option 2 or 3 or 4. Or sometime more than one". Then, you need to consult with the colleges individually by email to assure that the entrance is valid for all of them. Most of the cases, if the Invitation letter states such statement, it is valid for all of the stated options. But, it is really good to be assured by communicating with colleges individually with emails. It does not matter by the subject changes for Bachelor Level since the it is the starting point of college life. In Finland, colleges start from Bachelor Level, so it the starting point of the college. So, subject difference does not really matter unless it has some distinct field of study like one Nursing and another Business Or one Fine art and another Engineering. If you have subject difference like IT, Business, Engineering or Computing, do not bother about it.

I will let you know the UAS that didn't accept request to conduct entrance in Nepal.

Dear Friend, I think you forgot to mention the name of that college which you want to share. There are some colleges which do not agree to conduct entrance in Nepal. It is upto you whether you want to come to Finland to participate on Entrance or forget about that college.

What do you think about the visa for the entrance in finland? Do they easily get the visa ?
Thanks again for all.

In fact, only very very few visas are granted for the purpose of appearing on Entrance. They are not wise to grant visa for entrance. Might be, only 20% of students will get visa for participating on Entrance. So, it is better to keep communicating with them again and again to convince them to conduct entrance in Finland meanwhile you process through the visa process as well.

Invitation Letters and Entrance issues

I got it as a comment on one of my recent posts and I am posting it as a blog keeping in mind that it would be helpful to many more other students having similar queries:

Dear www.nepalfinland.com
I went through your website which I found very important. Thank you very much for your such service on the behalf of students. I love this very much.
As others, I have some quiries regarding entrance exam for Finland, I hope your answer will be much beneficial for me. Here it is:

Thank you very much for writing to me. I started this blog keeping in mind that it would somehow help Nepalese students who are preparing for Finland since I remember how much I struggle to gather information when I was applying. I am always ready to help as much as I can from my side to my friends who are preparing for Finland. I am glad that you liked my initiative on www.nepalfinland.com.

1.My brother and sister have applied for the UAS and got the invitation letter too. But what can be done if they are asked to attend entrance in Finland? Is there any way to manage the entrance here in Nepal?

First of all, let me congratulate your brother and sister for getting Invitation Letter for entrance examination. There are some colleges which invites students on Finland to appear on Entrance while other colleges coordinates with Finnish Embassy in Nepal to conduct entrance exam on behalf of that college. If your brother and sister are asked to attend Entrance in Finland, they can apply for a short term visa in Finland; come here in Finland in order to attend entrance exam and get back to Nepal and wait for admission acceptance. But, for average Nepalese students like us, this process is really expensive and almost impossible for medium class families like me. So, the best alternative could be, you contact with Finnish Embassy in Bishal Nagar to coordinate with college and conduct entrance on their behalf. As far as my knowledge, Finnish Embassy has done it several times after students request. In some coses, college themselves are not aware of the fact that Local Embassy like Finnish Embassy in Kathmandu conducts Entrance for them. So, you communicate with both of the parties, request them and try to convince them to manage entrance exam on Kathmandu. You notify the college that local embassy conducts such entrance and many other colleges of Finland participate on such entrance. At the same time, you kindly request embassy to coordinate with college to manage entrance in Kathmandu. After such requests, many times Finnish Embassy have managed to accommodate students of such colleges on their entrance tests. But, remember, there are some typical colleges, which never trust even on their Finnish Embassies; in that case, your brother and sister must come to Finland to attend entrance exam. So, communicate with college in time and prepare for visa at the same time; if it does not success to manage there, make their travel arrangement to Finland to participate on Entrance Exam. It would have been more easier for me talk precisely if you had mentioned the name of the college as well.

2.They have applied for four UAS. Do they have to attend all the four entrance exam? What happens if they don't get invitation letter from all the four?

It is not necessary to attend all four entrance exam. Since they applied from a single application form using Joint Application System of www.admissions.fi, they just need to attend at least one entrance offered by any one out of those four colleges in which they have applied. It does not matter how many invitations do they get to appear on the entrance examination, they just need to appear for only one entrance examination. For example, if they got Invitation Letter from all four colleges, they just need to appear on only one entrance and their entrance score is automatically shared by all four colleges. If they got Invitation from three or two colleges, the score of entrance is shared by those two or three colleges. If you got invitation from only one college, the score is not shared with any of the other colleges. The college from which they did not get invitation letter means, they are not selected for further processes on that particular college.

What to do if two or more college sent invitation letter and one of them invited to Finland to appear for Entrance and other asked to appear on Entrance held by Embassy in Kathmandu itself?

The wise decision is to appear entrance in Kathmandu itself. If you have applied through the same joint application system, using the same form for those colleges, you can communicate with that college with invited you to Finland to appear on Entrance stating that you applied through the Joint Application System to these-these colleges and out of those this particular college also invited you to appear on Entrance on Kathmandu only; so it is feasible for you to appear on this test and request them to share the same entrance score for their purpose also. In general, they are easily agreed and will coordinate themselves with each other about entrance score since they had already known the name of the colleges which issued you invitation letter. It is because, all of the invitation letter are issued through the same joint application system maintaining a central database, so they are already aware about the fact that you are also invited by other colleges. So, your task on this stage is just to remind them your decision to appear on Kathmandu Entrance rather than coming to Finland to appear on Entrance Exam.

3.They have applied for business and science. What could be the better way for getting the sample questions for the preparation.

As I wrote it multiple times on many of my previous posts on this blog, the best solution of getting sample question is either Embassy or college itself. But, don't be sure that you would get it, since some college prefer to hide entrance detail to test genuine students on Entrance. So, you should consult with Embassy in Bishal Nagar and College itself if they could provide you any sample questions for entrance examinations. If the college does not encourage to hide entrance detail; there is probability of getting them other wise not.

4. Last , but not least, what will be the better suggestions for them who are preparing for the entrance. and if they get the invitation from all the uas on what basis they could give priority on which university.

If you are preparing for entrance, never think that you are going for an examination; just think that you are going for refreshing your high school and senior secondary school knowledge. If you were average students during your schooling (including +2), your average preparation on science, math and English is more than enough to score good marks in Entrance. Prepare with cool mind, you need not to take pressure of entrance. But, it does not mean to ignore the importance of high score in entrance. The selection on colleges fully depend upon your performance on entrance. So, high score really matters. I would like to assure you, if you prepare at least two hours from at least two weeks before the exam, you will score very good marks in entrance.

If you got invitation for entrance from all of the UAS, you just choose the one which arranges entrance in Kathmandu only so that you need to visit Finland just for Entrance purpose. If all of those offers entrance in Kathmandu itself, you need not to choose any, since when you will appear on the examination that score would be shared by all of the UAS if all them are under joint application system.
Please write to me at nepalfinland@gmail.com if you have any further queries.

Sample of Application Confirmation Letter; its not a Entrance Invitation Letter

Dear Friend,
I am one of the student applied to Finland for further studies. I have included here confirmation of my application but I have not got any letter from college. I have applied for International Business, Information Technology in different colleges.

Yes, the one which you included on email is the Application confirmation letter. You got it after you applied through the joint application system of www.admissions.fi. After applying through joint application system, you must have posted your academic documents and related documents as I have mentioned on previous blogs and now, waiting for Invitation letter to appear on entrance examination.

Now, to appear on entrance, you should have got Invitation letter from at least one the colleges you have applied to. If you do not get any invitation letter you can not participate on the entrance examination. If you do not get any invitation letter, it generally means that you are not selected to appear on the entrance examination. They first select students for Entrance and out to those students, they select the students for Admission depending upon the performance of the entrance exam.

I am realize your restless condition to wait for Invitation letter and confusion state of admission for Finland. But, it is the only way to get admission and if you do not get invitation letter to appear on Entrance then your chances of getting admission for Bachelor Level in Finland terminates on the same point. So, the other way might be only applying next time. Let's be hopeful and wait for Invitation letter till the entrance date.

What is the exact date of Entrance Examination?

I have heard that Entrance Exam in April 12 but I got the date April 17 in this website. What is the exact exam date? And I could not get any good information for entrance examination. In which subject should I face the exam for International Business and Information Technology? If you give the answer of these my problem, I would be very grateful with you.

The best way to know the exact date of entrance is to consult on Finnish Embassy of Nepal in Bishal Nagar. In general, they provide these information only to the students who comes to their contact. So, you once visit them to know more detail about entrance date and entrance model. They might help you about the entrance model and might be some sample questions as well. But, some colleges prefer to hide the entrance details to know the genuine and talented students. So, it is better to consult them once before entrance examination.

As far as I know, the entrance exam only includes general types questions from mathematics, English and general questions. But, don't be scare with the subjects, all of those questions are just simple enough and are used to check the basic level of mathematics and English needed to study in Finland. So, your basic knowledge and some preparations are enough to score good marks if you are at least average students on those subjects.

Sample of Application Confirmation Letter

This confirmation letter is issued by first alternative college when you apply through joint application process of www.admissions.fi. In this case, he applied to four different colleges keeping Central Ostrobothnia UAS, Kokkola as first option. So, this confirmation is sent by Central Ostrobothnia UAS. After getting this confirmation, he was supposed to mail the printed copy his academic and admission documents by postal mail.

How long does it take to arrive Invitation Letter?

Hello,
I had filled the online application for bachelors degree. The polytechnic (HAMK) replied me and invited me to entrance exams through the mail. They told me that they had posted the invitation letter along with some details of the exams, on the 13th of March. I have not received it so far, how many days can it take approximately for it to reach to my P.O. Box here in Nepal?

Hi Friend, I would like to congratulate you for getting Invitation Letter and wish you best of luck for forthcoming Entrance Examination. As far as my past experience when I was applying, it takes about 21-30 days to arrive on P. O. Box in Nepal. But, one of my friend got it within 15 days as well, so the best way is to visit frequently to Post Office. As you wrote, it was posted on 13th of March, you should get it now and within one week. Visit the Embassy in Bishal Nagar to confirm your seat in Entrance examination and to know more detail about Entrance. However, the document your college have posted will also guide you what you need to do next as well.
All the best of the Entrance Exam.

Invitation Letter for Entrance Examination

Dear friend
My name is <> and i'm from Nepal. I've been trying abroad for my higher studies. I collected information about education system in various countries and found Finland to be very suitable. With the help of my teachers I applied for August session in Finland. I've already received a confirmation letter . The entrance exam date is already fixed for 17th of April, but I haven't received an offer letter yet. So would you kindly help me in knowing when shall I receive my offer letter.

Dear Friend,

Thanks for writing to me. First of all, I would like to congratulate you for getting invitation for Entrance Examination. But your mail confused me a bit. You told on earlier sentence that you have already received a confirmation letter but later you told that you haven't received an offer letter yet. I am not sure, what you have received and what you want to receive more. I would like to explain the process and what you will get on the process to make you bit clear:

1. When you apply with application form, you might get a confirmation mail about the application form. That confirmation just states that your application form have successfully arrived on the college/university. That confirmation did not mean any thing more. Neither that assures any thing about the application process. But, this mail confirms that your application form have been reached to the college within deadline and will be included on the admission process.

2. If you are selected on primary selection, you will get a Invitation Letter to appear for Entrance Examination. That is not a acceptance letter for admission. This is just a invitation to appear on Entrance Examination. Your selection for admission will be based on your performance on Entrance Examination. So, this invitation letter just allows you to appear on the entrance examination.

What to do it you receive Invitation for Entrance on emails but has not received a formal letter yet?
If you have received invitation for entrance on emails but you haven't received formal letter yet. But, the entrance is already scheduled and you are really getting near to it. Then, you print your invitation email and go to Finnish Embassy, Bishal Nagar and consult with them. They might help you to sort out some alternative if you possible.

3. If you do not receive any invitation for entrance before the entrance examination, it generally means you are not selected. Wait for invitation for entrance till the last date before entrance examination. If you do not get any, it means, you are not selected. However, there are very few cases, when some students are selected even without Entrance, but it happens very rare.

4. If you are selected for Admission, you would get Acceptance Letter. Generally, you would receive Acceptance Letter after one month of Entrance Examination. If you do not get Acceptance Letter by the mid of August, it means, you are not selected for admission. Then, there is no other way to get admission on the college for this year. You may reapply next year.

I hope, it replied your query. If your query is not solved yet, please don't hesitate to write me again.

Want to know about deadline of colleges in Finland

dear Friend,
I am <>, a Nepalese student who is want to pursue my bachelor in Finland. I have completed my +2 level exam in commerce faculty with 76% and looking for the international bachelor in Finland colleges and universities. i want to know about the deadlines of universities and colleges because most of them are already closed from Feburary 15 2008. Do i get chance to apply now or I have wait for next year and I had read that the admission open for twice a year for polytechnic.

Dear Friend, Thank your for writing to me. I am always happy to help my Nepalese friends to solve their queries related to education and related issues for Finland.

Unfortunately, you are bit late to apply for Bachelor. Still some polytechniques might open applications if they did not receive enough applications during previous application period. But, its really uncertain that whether they would open again or not. But, if you want to study, Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art, Graphics Design, Culture and Sociology related subjects, there are still few polytechnique which will announce application period at the end of the March. If you are looking for Business or IT related courses in Finland, keep the eyes open, polytechniques might announce second phase of application period anytime during end of March to mid of April. But, you won't be able to apply for universities now since they hardly re-announce application period enough if they did not get enough applications.

Yes, its true that Polytechniques open application twice a year. But, remember, only few of the polytechniques take two intakes a year. So, it means, only few colleges will announce the admission two times and admit students. August intake is the primary intake for Finland for which the deadline are over by this February 15. Every college takes students for this August intake. But, only few colleges take intake for January intake for which application period falls in mid of August to end of September depending upon the college. And, more important fact is that these January intakes are designed for exchange students so only few new degree seeking students are admitted during January intake.

So, best solution for you might be, keep your eyes open on polytechnique's website for second phase of admission process; apply on September as well for January session and if you did not get admission till then, you can wait for another year. Let's hope, you would get a chance on applying on second phase of application process. You can find the list of polytechniques and their website by clicking on this link.
