Confirmation to College 2010

Congratulations to all of those who got admission for 2010 August Session !

Good News! Don't worry anything about the place and locality since in almost every city where you are admitted, you will find at least few other Nepalese students and as you know, generally Nepalese are very cooperative and helpful for helping their friends.

What Should you do after getting Admission on a college?
  • Confirm your position on college by filling Confirmation form received on Admission Package
  • Fill and return Housing Application Form as well to ensure your accommodation. Start looking and booking other housing facility immediately located on that city as well since finding a room on most of the city is another big headache.

  • Apply for Resident Permit (it is Student Visa of Finland).
  • Get yourself familiarize with Finnish society, culture, environment and some basic greetings in Finnish language.
  • Change entire 6000 Euro amount as Traveler's Cheque and some very minimal cash in case of some emergency on arrival before changing Traveler's Cheque. You are suggested to carry all Traveler's Cheque instead of Bank Drafts since Traveller's Cheque are preferable than Bank Draft and also, it would be exchanged immediately while compared with Bank Draft.
  • Book a flight ticket and buy it immediately once you get Resident Permit.
  • Do the necessary shopping and travel arrangements.
The process of applying Resident Permit will be available on immediate next latest post.
I will post the Shopping List for this year and various routes to travel a bit later.

Confirming your Position to the college

Acceptance to admission means certainty of your admission. It means are already selected for your further studies in Finland. Now, you need to follow some formal process to confirm your seat, this confirmation process means you ensure the college that you are coming to that particular college for further studies. When your admission package reached you, you will find three most important documents on the pack along with some other readable materials.
  1. Letter of Acceptance: It proves that you got admission on this university. This is the document on which basis you will apply to Embassy for Resident Permit. Resident Permit is the visa name for Students.
  2. Confirmation Form: This form is to confirm and reserve your seat on this university. You are supposed to fill it and return back to this university to confirm your seat that you accepted your admission and will be coming to that particular university before the deadline as mentioned on the form. If you have applied to other universities of Finland as well and waiting for their admission results, do not send it immediately, since you can not confirm on multiple universities. But, be careful about the deadline to confirm your seat.
  3. Housing Application Form: This form is to apply for Housing for your accommodation during your studies. Finding rooms is really much difficult on some of the cities of Finland. Do not wait any more for applying for Rooms. Along with immediately filling and sending this form, also start searching other housing support on your city.

I am on the waiting list of another college, What should I do?

If you are already selected by one college and selected on waiting list of another college, and you want to go to this second college, then, communicate with this second college by email and ask whether they have any more seats available or not, and also confirm that if you cancel the confirmation of first college will this second college accepts your admission or not. If college accepts it and confirms your seat, you can email first college and cancel your admission, then immediately inform the second college about cancellation so that this second college can issue you a new acceptance certificate.

Be careful, do not do it before getting any direct confirmation from waiting list college, else, once you cancel on first college, then, you might not be able to claim back your seat later if not got admission on second college.

Do not bother much, if you want, you can apply for college transfer to your required college later might be after one year.

I want to go to the college of my 3rd priority, should I wait for it?

If you want, you can wait for them. But do not make much delay since primary acceptance to all colleges ends on first week of August. Also, if you are already selected for one college, there is very little chance to get admission on another college since all of them operate on Joint Application System, hence without cancelling the first accepted admission, you might not be considered for your desired college of 2rd or 3rd or 4th priority. And, by that time, your desired college will have also their own list of selected students and their seats might be full by then.

So, do not cancel the admission without communicating properly with colleges.

Also, communicate properly with the desired college stating you want to be admitted for that particular college rather than just waiting by doing nothing.

  1. I am not sure about the bank draft and the traveler's cheque issue.
    1. Will embassy issue visa without the bank draft?
    2. Can we exchange Traveler's Cheque without visa?
    3. Can we exchange Traveler's Cheque worth more than $2000 or Eur 1500?

  2. I discussed this issue with Embassy as well. Embassy ensured me that it is possible.

    1. Will embassy issue visa without the bank draft?

=> Embassy will definitely issue the Resident Permit with Traveler's Cheque of 6000 Euro with replacement of Bank Draft of the same amount. In fact, Embassy itself will encourage students for making Traveler's Cheque instead of Bank Draft.

    2. Can we exchange Traveler's Cheque without visa?

    3. Can we exchange Traveler's Cheque worth more than $2000 or Eur 1500?

=> Embassy will issue a letter as it used to issue before for the exchange of Traveler's Cheque. It is already confirmed and assured that this process can be carried out without any complications. I asked them the same and they double checked it and assured me that it is possible and will be carried out as normal process with the letter issued by them.

  6. thanks suraj brother, but i wish to hear from you that will it be the case that i don't receive acceptance letter in my p.o.b. i mean will it get lost sometime. and what to do in those cases

    ReplyDelete
  7. yes sometimes it can get lost, just keep on touch with ur accepted college and they will sort out everything!

    ReplyDelete
  8. even if it gets lost, u can ask ur college to send it again, so they will send other copy and so just keep on touch wid ur college

    ReplyDelete
  9. thank you very much Suraj Brother, Will college send us in email if we request because it's hassle free ni. good bye

  10. Kisun Pokharel: Generally Bank Balance Certificate is enough for proving that you have at least 6000 euro on your balance. But, some people try to fraud it, so if embassy feels necessary, it will ask for Transaction statement as well.

Gunsa Lama: In your case, you can ask your college to send your document to another address, you just inform college that you changed your address and request them to resend it to new address. They will easily resend it to your new address. Email print won't work for apply Resident Permit since they need original of Acceptance Letter issued by college.

  13. Hello Brother, I am a Bangladeshi student.I have got the selection Result from the university. They have asked me for the confirmation letter. By sending the confirmation letter, will I get the ACCEPTENCE LETTER?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Regarding two person living in a single room, its like breaking a rule. Doing so is against the rule of any housing company. you will get caught if only they get complaint against u. I think in such case if they found u guilty they may give warning or ask u to leave a room giving u certain time, & obviosly u will be black-listed!

  15. @Md. Shahadat:
I think u must get a acceptance letter and confirmation form in a single packet from University after u get selected. then u have to fill the confirmation form and submit back to university within a deadline. and u will be using that acceptance letter for visa processing in embassy.

  16. It is best to take biggest possible denomitations of traveller's cheques so that the cashing fee in Finland will be minimal. It costs 1 euro to cash a cheque. Biggest denomitation avaible in cheques is 500 euro and to exchange all 12 cheques it costs 12 euros. If a student gets 100 € cheques the exchange cost will be 60 euro.

  27. hey hi brother , im from india , is tht above mentioned will also apply for indian syudents .

  28. Bangladeshi students are strongly encouraged to apply from the finnish mission located either at their home country or the consular section in Newdelhi.however,in case of Indian students circumstances can be different.
Bangladeshi students wishing to apply from
Finnish Mission at kathmandu do need to demonstrate concrete evidence for not lodging their application at India. Reasons like travelling India is hectic, opportunity grabbed while holidying in Nepal are not taken into account.
Banglaedeshi students are not advised by the Embassy of Finland Newdelhi to lodge their application in PERSON . They can lodge their application via mail. Interviews are taken mostly when consular doubts the prospective students intentions are genuine or the documents submitted by students are fradaulent.
I hope above information submitted or answered has done bit of justice .
